Designing following psychologically-based interior guidelines
Mental health is often thought of as an internal battle, something that happens solely within the mind. Nevertheless, the truth is that the environment plays a massive role in shaping the emotional well-being.
Evidence strongly supports role of interior design and how the right decisions can moderates stress, inspires relaxation, nurtures mental health, and generates a positive impact.
The use of interior design in supporting mental health is not much considered in urban societies, which spends most of it’s time indoors. Since our understanding has evolved, thus, it is crucial that we design interiors while being conscious of their impact on mental health.
Modern office design is not just about functionality, but about supporting the wellbeing of employees. The important thing is to understand the impact of the design on them and work to create a space that helps stimulate better productivity and promote mental health.
Mental health facilities should allow its space to be part of its therapeutic setting. The character of the facility has a psychological impact on the patient’s beliefs, expectations, and perceptions about themselves, the staff, the services, and the healthcare system.
A nudge is a deliberate intervention designed to architect and guide people toward making choices that benefit them and society. The beauty of a nudge lay in its ability to provide people with enough information to make an optimal and informed decision without limiting their choices.
There is no health without mental health
The ‘Nudge’ understands the reluctance some people have in seeking psychiatric help either due to the stigma, the cost, or having been through a bad experience. All of us on the team have our own experiences, and all it took is to come upon the right psychiatrist to find our grounds.
Knowing our diagnosis helped us understand ourselves, our thoughts, our actions, our feelings, and it helped us understand the environment around us. Knowing what triggers our conditions and drains our energy helped us navigate our days more efficiently and allowed for our treatments to be more effective.
